Thinking about Sarah. Abraham, out of fear for himself, twice put Sarah in a compromising situation. Another man "took her" believing that she was Abraham's sister instead of his wife. He failed to offer the protection that was his responsibility.
We don't hear about the situation from Sarah's perspective, but she always ends up right back with Abraham, filling her role, loving her man and ultimately inheriting the promises God gave to Abraham.
As we follow our fallen men, they may lead us into painful situations. Like Sarah, though, we can choose to trust God, forgive like God and live up to the role He has called us to.
Here is my homework assignment on the word "remembered" as found in Gen. 8:1, 30:22, etc. when God remembered Noah, Rachel, etc. The Hebrew word, according to Strong's Concordance, is "zakar" meaning to mark so as to be recognized, to think on, be mindful of. This reference does not indicate that God forgot, but rather that He took the time to really see and notice. Webster's 1828 dictionary references the "remember" of Genesis 8 and 19, and defines it as "to bear in mind with favor, care, and regard for safety".
So, there you go! God didn't forget them--His memory is way better than the Memory Mommas', except when it comes to our sin!:)
When the brothers returned from Egypt and told Jacob they needed Benjamin to secure the release of Simeon, he reacted in fear and did nothing. (42:38, 43:2) Fear is the greatest enemy of faith, is it not? Eventually, though, he let faith rule his actions again, accepting whatever would be the result, trusting and accepting God's sovreignty. (43:13)
God, grant me the grace to live in faith knowing nothing touches me, but that it has been allowed by Your loving hand.
For those of us who memorized Genesis 50:20 last January, it has been especially meaningful this week: "You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good- to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives."
