Week #29: Malachi 3:10

Week of July 19-25

"Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this," says the LORD Almighty, "and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that you will not have room enough for it." [Malachi 3:10]

For further study, read this great article on tithing from pastor and author John Piper: Toward the Tithe and Beyond.

We are a living testimony of this verse! I knew this verse, but I am so glad that you picked it Tiffany b/c it will be now stored in my permanent memory.

We were in debt to our eyeballs b/c of just plain being foolish with our money and justifying this or that. We got with a good friend from our Community group to teach us how to use our money wisely. She had us read this verse and to really chew on what it meant.
We got serious about it and cut coupons, ate out only on special occasions etc. We have faithfully tithed our 10% gross and every stinkin' time I thought that we weren't going to make it...God rearranged our finances where we had an overflow or just enough through wedding gigs etc. God is faithful and we can test Him in this.
We aren't out of the hole, just yet...but we can almost taste the freedom! What have we gained from this verse as a couple?
-We are a team. Of course, we have our ups and downs, but we are a team. We weren't before b/c we just weren't on the same page financially on how/what to spend our money. Our marriage has been blessed.
- Our son has and will be blessed, b/c he will be taught this virtue and will see his parents setting an example for him. So, he and his children and thereafter will be blessed.
-We will have the freedom to give and give abundantly b/c we won't be wrapped up in our minimum credit card payments etc!

I know that this was a long blog, but for those that are struggling, I write this for you. Be encouraged and know that when we are faithful in tithing, the LORD blesses us beyond our finances.

Here's a tip fo that helps me with this verse:
My tip: I use the long "I" in "Malachi" and remember "Malachi-Tithe" Both with long "I" sound!
